The Buitenveldertse Montessorischool is a primary school in Amsterdam Buitenveldert, rooted in the philosophy of Maria Montessori. Set in a calm and welcoming neighbourhood, our school is home to around 200 students.

At the heart of Montessori education lies a simple yet profound principle: follow the child. Children naturally reveal what they need to learn, how they need to grow, and where they thrive when given the right conditions.

Central to this approach is the prepared environment — a thoughtfully designed space in which learning materials are carefully organised and readily accessible, inviting children to explore and discover at their own pace.

The Montessori teacher plays a distinctive role. Rather than instructing from the front of the classroom, the teacher serves as a guide: curating the environment, stepping back to allow independent exploration, and offering attentive support when needed. It is an approach that balances freedom with structure — and one that consistently yields strong outcomes for our students.

We would love to welcome you. Feel free to visit us for a tour and an introductory conversation with our principal, Dewi Wittens. For more information, please don't hesitate to reach out.
